One grid. Every file.

Most tag editors make you open files one at a time or work through clumsy batch dialogs. Retag loads your whole library into a spreadsheet grid — one row per file — so you can select thousands of tracks and edit a field across all of them in a single keystroke. Nothing writes to disk until you confirm Apply.

Everything a serious library needs

Spreadsheet-style batch editing

Every file in your library is a row. Select one track or ten thousand, type a value, and it propagates instantly. Configurable columns, named column presets, and one-click saved custom workflows keep repetitive jobs fast.

🔒

Non-destructive by default

Nothing is written to disk until you explicitly confirm Apply. Every pending change is visible before it lands, and multi-level Undo means a mistake is never permanent.

🔍

Acoustic fingerprint lookup

Unknown tracks? Retag can fingerprint audio with AcoustID and match it against MusicBrainz to fill in artist, album, title, year, and track number — no manual searching required. Discogs lookup and Cover Art Archive artwork are also built in.

💾

Rename from tags with live preview

Build a filename pattern from your tags — artist, album, track number, title — and see the result for every selected file before committing. Plex, Jellyfin, and Navidrome naming presets are included out of the box.

🎵

Apple Music library import

Import tracks directly from your Apple Music library (read-only, with your consent) to bring them into the grid. Export cleaned copies or playlist files in M3U, PLS, XSPF, or CSV format for Plex, Jellyfin, or Navidrome.

🔨

Bulk cleanup tools

Case unification, encoding (mojibake) repair, ID3v1 strip, FLAC ID3-to-Xiph normalisation, ratings (POPM), lyrics editor, and copy or move files to organised folder structures — all in the same session as your batch edits.

19 formats, including native DSD

Retag reads and writes tags via TagLib 2.2.1: MP3, FLAC, M4A, AAC, MP4, WAV, AIFF, OGG Vorbis, Opus, Ogg FLAC, Speex, WavPack, APE, MusePack, TrueAudio, WMA, and native DSD (.dsf / .dff). If it is in your music library, Retag handles it.

Privacy, by design

Retag does not track you, collect analytics, or require an account. All tag editing is local — your files never leave your Mac. The only network activity is optional, user-initiated lookups to MusicBrainz, Discogs, AcoustID, and Cover Art Archive, which you trigger explicitly.
